Ubisoft has officially announced Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of the 2013 pirate game, and set its release for July 9, 2026. It comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the standard edition costs $59.99 (59.99€).
The remake had been an open secret for months. Ubisoft confirmed it in March, and the full reveal followed today in a showcase on YouTube.
What changes
Ubisoft Singapore leads development. The game is rebuilt from the ground up on Ubisoft's latest Anvil engine, and Ubisoft calls it a faithful remake of the original. Beyond updated visuals, the company lists combat built around parries, improved stealth and parkour, deeper naval mechanics and new story content.
The setup stays the same. Players sail the Caribbean as Edward Kenway, a pirate captain pulled into the old conflict between Assassins and Templars, and meet figures such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonny and Calico Jack.
The original also had modern-day sections in which players controlled an Abstergo employee. Creative director Paul Fu said the remake's modern-day sections will feature new moments about Edward's internal struggles.
The main campaign can be played offline. A one-time internet connection is only needed to download the game.
What is left out
The remake leaves out the original's multiplayer modes and all of its DLC. That includes Freedom Cry, the expansion built around Adéwalé.
Editions and pre-orders
On PC, the game will be sold through the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store, and it will also be part of Ubisoft+, Ubisoft's subscription service. Ubisoft announced three editions:
- Standard Edition: the base game.
- Deluxe Edition: digital only, adds the Master Assassin Character Pack and the Master Assassin Naval Pack
- Collector's Edition: everything in the Deluxe Edition plus an Edward figurine, a wearable metal brooch, a SteelBook and a cloth map.
Pre-orders include Blackbeard's Crimson Pack, which has a costume for Edward, a pair of swords and a set of pistols. The press release gives a price only for the Standard Edition.
Ubisoft also confirmed that musician Woodkid is returning to the series for a reimagined track, which the company plans to reveal later this year.
