Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, and Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed at today's Xbox Games Showcase that it will not come to PS5. Fable, which Xbox delayed out of its fall window on May 29, also got an exact date: February 23, 2027.
E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive
The showcase opened with the first gameplay from E-Day, a prequel to the original Gears of War that follows Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago on Emergence Day, the day the Locust Horde first attacks. Right after the footage, Sharma said the game will be an Xbox console exclusive. On Saturday, Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb had said a PS5 version was no longer planned.
For players, that means E-Day runs on Xbox Series X|S and on PC through Steam and the Xbox app, and it will be in Game Pass from day one. PlayStation owners can still play Gears of War: Reloaded, released last year, but it will be the only Gears game on that console.
The exclusivity does not cover everything Xbox showed. Clockwork Revolution, an RPG from inXile due in 2027, is also limited to Xbox consoles and PC, while Fable and Halo: Campaign Evolved are still coming to PS5.
A dedicated presentation, the Gears of War: E-Day Direct, followed the showcase. The Coalition showed new moves such as sliding into low cover and jumping over small gaps, and said it is going for a gritty look inspired by war movies. The studio also announced a new 12-player co-op mode and confirmed that competitive multiplayer returns.
Fable gets its date
Fable will launch on February 23, 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PC and PS5. Xbox moved the open-world fantasy RPG out of its Autumn 2026 window on May 29, citing a busy holiday lineup that includes GTA 6. Xbox content chief Matt Booty said the game is in good shape and that the team wants it to have a window of its own.
A new trailer at the show showed a darker take on the world of Albion and its main antagonist, Isabel.
Moving out of GTA 6's way is a sensible call, but it is the second delay for a game that was announced in 2020 and was first planned for 2025.
