Rockstar has shown 26 minutes of GTA 6, captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. The video, titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, mixes story missions, a mid-mission switch between Jason and Lucia, and a long list of activities away from the story.
It premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, at 3 p.m. ET and is now also on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI site. It follows Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023) and Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025).
Ahead of the video, a leaker who goes by Cyberleek had been releasing unofficial gameplay clips, according to PC Gamer.
What the video shows
The video opens directly in a mission. Jason and Lucia arrive at a drug distributor for a pickup, things go wrong, and police show up. The player controls Jason and takes cover while Lucia, controlled by the game, does the same. PC Gamer's Tyler Wilde thinks much of this looks like custom scripting for this specific mission.
The footage also shows the player swapping characters mid-mission: Lucia is parachuting off a tower, then the player is Jason, hanging out with a friend in the middle of a conversation. Elsewhere, Lucia drives while Jason shoots at chasing police from the back seat, and the pair pose as tourists in disguise during an interrogation. In one scene the couple is offered a job meant for only one of them, and Lucia takes it.
The last stretch is a condensed mission in which Jason and Lucia act as security for Andrés de León, a media executive at Megamundo, at a party. Armed attackers break in. The pair split up, and their text messages float next to them as they talk. PC Gamer notes that it is often unclear where cutscenes end and gameplay begins, and that the footage is carefully staged.
The video also shows a long list of recreational activities: scuba diving, fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, dirt bike riding, base jumping from a tower, street racing, dancing at a club and shooting hoops.
What the previews added
IGN also published a preview after watching Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson play about 30 minutes of the game. Reporters watched and did not play themselves. Players can nurture Jason and Lucia's relationship, but they don't have to. Nelson told IGN the two stay partners in crime either way, and whether players nurture the relationship affects how their story plays out.
IGN's preview adds more detail:
- On top of the Wanted level, Jason and Lucia have a Criminal Profile, described as similar to the Honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Nelson says safehouses are closer to the camps in Red Dead Redemption 2 than to earlier GTA safehouses in how interactive they are and how much they feel like home.
- Some cars can only be stolen with special tools.
- Streets are narrower and more realistic in scale, Nelson says, which makes reckless driving trickier.
- Non-player characters react in more varied ways. They don't always cower when a gun is pulled, and players can greet or taunt them.
Release date and platforms
