Valve has released its redesigned Steam Store home page to everyone on June 4, ending a beta that began in early April. It adds a personalized calendar of new and upcoming games, two sale sections that now stay permanently, and short trailers that play when you hover over a game.
Valve's announcement describes the update as a continuation of recent store improvements, such as the game page changes from a few months ago. The home page had collected new sections over the years, and the redesign is meant to make it feel more cohesive.
What is new on the page
The personalized calendar now sits right on the home page. It recommends new and upcoming games based on what you play, lets you page through releases coming in the next two weeks, and opens a full calendar if you want to look further out. For anyone who doesn't follow release news closely, it is probably the most useful addition.
Two sections that players may know from Valve's big seasonal sales are now permanent: games on sale from your wishlist, and recommended DLC on sale.
Hovering over a game now plays a short trailer clip, which Valve calls a micro-trailer. The section further down the page, headed "Keep scrolling for more recommendations," gets micro-trailer and screenshot previews too, and you can click a screenshot to expand it.
The page also uses higher-resolution game art, drawing on the latest art developers have uploaded. Valve asks developers to review their store page assets and replace missing or low-resolution ones.
Valve says you can customize the page through your Store Preferences, by following developers, and by ignoring individual games or tags.
Motion settings and controller support
Players who are sensitive to motion can turn off micro-trailers and other animated marketing assets in their Store Preferences. The home page then shows static screenshots and static marketing art instead.
Valve also says controller navigation on the home page has improved significantly. The change mostly affects players on Steam Deck or in Big Picture Mode.
