CD Projekt Red has announced Songs of the Past, a third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It is scheduled for 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

It is the first new expansion for the game since Blood and Wine in 2016. Players will take control of Geralt of Rivia again in a new adventure, but the studio has not shared any story details yet. No exact release date or price has been announced either. More information is planned for late summer 2026.

CD Projekt Red is building the expansion together with Fool's Theory, a Polish studio whose team includes veterans of The Witcher 3. The same studio made The Thaumaturge and is working on the remake of the first Witcher game.

The announcement lists only PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It does not mention PS4, Xbox One or Switch versions.

The reveal came a day early. Marcin Momot, CD Projekt Red's global director of public relations, said the studio had planned to announce it on May 28, but the news leaked first.

New PC minimum requirements

The announcement comes with new minimum requirements for The Witcher 3 on PC, meant to keep the game and Songs of the Past running smoothly. They take effect with the next update to the game. CD Projekt Red has not said when that update arrives.

The biggest change is the operating system. Windows 11 will become the minimum for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, because Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 in October 2025 and the studio will no longer test its games on it. Hard drives will no longer be supported, and the game will need 70 GB of space on an SSD.

The new processor and graphics card minimums are on CD Projekt Red's support page.

Stream on May 28, more details in late summer

CD Projekt Red is hosting a stream marking the Blood and Wine anniversary tomorrow, May 28, at 5 PM CEST on YouTube and Twitch. Whether Songs of the Past comes up there is unclear. The studio plans to share more about the expansion in late summer 2026.
