The Witcher 3 Remastered Launches September 29 as a Free Upgrade

·

CD Projekt Red announced The Witcher 3 Remastered at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25. It launches September 29 as a free upgrade for existing owners on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Remastered goes beyond visuals. The studio lists upgraded graphics and performance, plus gameplay changes: enhanced combat, improved movement and traversal, new effects for Geralt's Signs, revamped handling for Roach, improved monster behavior, new finishers and a reworked skill tree. It also adds transmogrification, which lets players change how gear looks without changing its stats, and an expanded photo mode.

The game has had a major free update before. In 2022, CD Projekt Red released a next-gen version with ray tracing, faster loading and a photo mode. This time, a large part of the list is about how the game plays.

Owners on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S get the upgrade at no cost. The studio is working on it with Yigsoft, a team that has already worked on The Witcher 3. Two platforms are new: a native Switch 2 version launches September 29 with pre-orders open now, and a partnership with Blizzard brings the game to Battle.net the same day.

Both expansions are free now

Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the game's two earlier expansions, are free for all Witcher 3 owners as of August 25. Host Geoff Keighley announced it on stage. Anyone who skipped them can start those stories now, before Remastered arrives. New copies of Remastered will include both as well.

Songs of the Past arrives in 2027

The show also gave a first look at Songs of the Past, the third expansion for The Witcher 3. A teaser introduces Letten, a rural region with harvest festivals and a dark secret under the surface, where Geralt faces enemies he has not met before.

Songs of the Past launches in 2027 as a paid expansion on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, and it can be wishlisted now. Fool's Theory, a studio led by Witcher 3 veterans, is co-developing it with CD Projekt Red. The studio has not shared a price or a more precise release date.

Buyers of the expansion on Battle.net will unlock a Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4. Details are planned for BlizzCon in September.

CD Projekt Red is hosting guided presentations of Songs of the Past and Remastered throughout gamescom in Hall 8.1. Special REDstreams on YouTube and Twitch will cover specific areas of both.
