Gothic 1 Remake is getting official modding tools, a photo mode and Marvin Mode (a built-in cheat mode that lets players spawn creatures or items and teleport around the map). Alkimia Interactive, the studio behind the remake, also plans to reveal a separate new game, probably in 2027.
The studio shared its plans in a video message during the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase in early August. The remake had launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in June, and had already sold 500,000 copies in the first week. According to studio head Reinhard Pollice, bug fixes and polish remain the top priority, but new features are planned too.
What Alkimia is adding
Marvin Mode is the feature longtime fans will recognize. The original Gothic had a hidden debug mode, the kind developers use for testing, that players could unlock by typing a code. It gave them a free camera, invincibility and any item they wanted. Alkimia calls the new version the Gothic equivalent of a developer mode, one players can also use just to mess around.
The mod kit gives players official tools to build their own content for the remake and there might keep adding more modding options over time.
The photo mode lets players capture screenshots in the Game. Alkimia mentions new modes with "alternative progression mechanics" but hasn't explained what they will change and the new features would arrive "in the next couple of months."
As we saw with Skyrim, it is the mod kit that is most likely to keep people playing. Even years later, players are still enjoying it.
A hint at the next game
In its Steam post, the studio wrote that it had heard all the questions about its next game, but the answer would take some time. There said in the video that the new game will probably be announced next year.
The studio hasn't said what that game is. Many fans read the hint as a sign of a Gothic 2 remake, since it came in a Gothic video, but we need to see. THQ Nordic had already shared early ideas for a possible Gothic 2 remake, without confirming the game.
The next chance for an answer is the THQ Nordic Showcase 2027, where Alkimia says it might address the question.
