Players who bought a World of Warcraft: Forever upgrade can reserve up to three character names from October 27 to November 3, right before the game launches.
The reservation matters more than usual because Forever has no realms. In older versions of WoW, a name only had to be free on one realm, the server a character lived on. In Forever, the full name has to be unique across an entire region.
To make that easier, every character gets two names: a first name and a second one that works like a surname. Two players can both be called Asha, as long as their second names differ. Blizzard checks both parts together, so splitting a blocked word across the two fields won't necessarily get it past the filter. Players who prefer a single name on screen can hide the second one in the game's Nameplates settings, though it still shows up in chat.
Forever isn't a separate purchase: it's included with a regular WoW subscription. On top of that, Blizzard sells three optional upgrade packs for Forever, the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack and the Warcraft Forever Collection, which add extras such as a new playable race. All three include Early Name Reservation.

The reservation closes November 3, and World of Warcraft: Forever launches the next day at 3 p.m. PST.
