Mycopunk left Steam Early Access on October 20 and launched on PS5 the same day, where it is part of the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members. Version 1.0 adds a fifth playable character, a harder region on a nearby moon and, yes, hats.
Players control a crew of beat-up robots that the SAXON corporation hires to fight a fungal outbreak on New Atlas. Up to four players can team up for missions, but you can also play the game in single-player. Between missions, the crew hangs out on an orbital dropship with minigames.
The main hook is the upgrade system. Every mission drops mods that players fit into a grid on their weapons and gear, so a strong build depends on what fits as much as on what you pick.
What's new in 1.0

The biggest addition is the Mycologist, the first new playable crew member since Early Access began. Her abilities use infection as a resource and is a Infection mechanic
For players who have been around since Early Access, the studio added X11-B, a region on a small moon of New Atlas with harder missions. Playing there unlocks the Snowball, a new ice grenade. There is also a new weapon, the Diffraction Driver, a shotgun-style gun whose spread gets narrower and reaches further when you spin it up.
The update also brings a new standard mission, a small side job where Roachard needs a couch for the dropship, and hats. An optional Supporter Pack with skins and other cosmetics is available for players who want to back the studio.
How the launch went
Steam reviews held up through the launch. Of the reviews from the last 30 days, 80% are positive, and the overall rating is still Very Positive.
Launch day wasn't flawless. Pigeons at Play said it was aware of crashes on PS5 when players join online lobbies and was working on a fix. On Steam, the studio has released several patches since launch, most of them bug fixes.
Price and PS Plus
PS5 players with PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium can download Mycopunk from the Game Catalog at no extra cost. On Steam, the game costs $7.49 instead of $14.99 until November 3.
