ArenaNet has confirmed the Warrior, Necromancer, and Ranger for Guild Wars 3. Public gameplay has not been released yet, but selected press members and content creators were shown gameplay behind closed doors at Gamescom 2026. From what they have reported, the combat system will focus heavily on movement, Momentum, and cooperation between classes.
We still do not know how many classes will be in the final game. So far, these three are the only ones confirmed by ArenaNet.
Warrior
The Warrior will probably be the typical frontline class, fighting directly in the combat. According to reports from people who attended the closed Gamescom presentation, the class uses sword and shield and has a combat style built around blocking, knockbacks, and powerful close-range attacks.
The new movement system will likely be very important for the Warrior. It can use walls and elevation to build Momentum before jumping down on enemies with stronger attacks. We also know that the class will not only be a typical fighter. The Warrior can use its shield to help boost allies into the air, which could lead to interesting team combinations.
In the previous game, Guild Wars 2, the Warrior is known for its large weapon selection, heavy armour, and powerful attacks strengthened through Adrenaline. The Guild Wars 3 version seems to stay true to the Warrior’s frontline role, while putting much more focus on mobility and physical impact.
Ranger

Not too much is known about the Ranger yet, but it will probably be the typical ranged bow class that we both love and sometimes hate. According to reports from the closed Gamescom presentation, one of the Ranger’s abilities is called Polar Vortex. It creates an ice vortex that can launch players upward and give attacks cold damage.
This could lead to interesting elemental combinations, and it will be exciting to see how well this works together with other classes. For example, other players can use the vortex to reach higher positions or prepare stronger aerial attacks.
In Guild Wars 2, the Ranger is best known for animal companions, ranged weapons, and traps. Whether pets will return in Guild Wars 3 is still unknown, but the class already appears to have an important role in setting up team play.
Necromancer
The Necromancer, also known as the dark magic class that brings temporary life back to the dead, will apparently be able to summon minions again and use them to defend its team. It will also be able to steal health from enemies.
Momentum may affect the range of its attacks, which would fit very well into Guild Wars 3’s new movement system. According to reports from the Gamescom presentation, the Necromancer can use a scythe attack that moves the character forward while damaging enemies and stealing health from them.
So far, it sounds a lot like the typical Necromancer players already know from Guild Wars 2, but with completely reworked gameplay mechanics.
What Comes Next?
The full class roster, weapon choices, build options, and profession mechanics have not been officially announced yet. For now, the Gamescom presentation gives us an early idea of ArenaNet’s direction, rather than a final look at the game.
The first beta is currently planned for autumn 2027, so we will hopefully learn much more about the remaining classes and systems before then.
