EA has confirmed that DICE and Respawn are working together on a new Star Wars Battlefront 3 shooter.
The confirmation came in a memo to EA employees, which the company also published as a news post on October 21, 2026. In it, EA's studio leadership says it will bring Respawn and DICE together "to collaborate on a future project" as part of its shooter plans, alongside future Battlefield games. EA did not name the game. Bloomberg and Variety reports that multiple sources confirmed the project is Star Wars Battlefront 3.
Both studios know the territory. DICE made the two most recent entries, Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2017). According to GameSpot, the pair had sold more than 33 million copies combined by early 2022. Respawn is behind Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games starring Cal Kestis.
For years, a third game looked off the table. In 2021, reporter Tom Henderson said EA had turned down a Battlefront 3 pitch from DICE over the cost of the Star Wars license. In early 2022. Battlefront II itself launched to heavy criticism over loot boxes, but a long run of updates won many players back before new content ended in April 2020.
Given that history, putting DICE back on Star Wars with the Jedi team at its side is about the best outcome Battlefront fans could have hoped for.
The news arrived alongside major cuts. EA is closing BioWare after deciding not to move forward with a new Mass Effect, and according to Variety, about 3% of the company's employees are being laid off.
EA has not shared platforms, a release window or any gameplay details. The post only says the company "can't wait to share more when the time comes."
