Valve has officially retired the Valve Index. The company says the VR headset is no longer being produced, and the remaining headsets, controllers, and accessories are now on sale at reduced prices while supplies last.
For current owners, nothing changes. Valve confirmed that the Index is still supported on Steam and SteamVR, Valve's VR platform, and Steam Support will keep helping with hardware problems.
Production had stopped long before this announcement. Valve confirmed in November 2025 that it was no longer manufacturing the Index. That was the same week Valve revealed its new headset, the Steam Frame, which launched in September.
The two work very differently. The Index needs a cable to the PC and base stations set up around the room to track movement. The Steam Frame is wireless.
Seven years is a long run for a VR headset. For owners who want to keep their Index running, this sale is probably the last good chance to pick up spare parts.
