Four new games that feel like Halloween

·

Four new games land in the weeks around Halloween. Two are already out, and two arrive before October 31.

Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival

Hellraiser: Revival has been out since October 8 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is a single-player, first-person horror game. Players control Aidan, who has to rescue his girlfriend from Hell and fights his way through with guns and supernatural powers like telekinesis.

The game also has close ties to the films. Doug Bradley, who played Pinhead in the original movies, voices him again. Clive Barker, author of the Hellraiser story, collaborated with Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games on the project, calling it "the first true Hellraiser game".

Tenebris Somnia

Tenebris Somnia came out on October 16 and plays like a classic survival horror game squeezed into 8- and 16-bit pixel art. The developers name Silent Hill and Resident Evil as inspirations. Players solve puzzles and fight creatures in 2D, in a style that recalls the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

At key story moments, the game cuts away from the pixels to live-action scenes with real actors and practical effects, shot by an award-winning film crew from Argentina.

The game is published by New Blood Interactive and available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and Switch 2.

Stupid Never Dies

Not everything this season has to be scary. Stupid Never Dies, out October 21 on PS5 and PC, is a fast 3D action RPG with a pop-punk soundtrack and a cast of werewolves, lizardmen, and skeletons.

Players control Davy, a timid zombie at the very bottom of monster society. He falls in love with Julia, a woman who froze to death in a freezer, and to bring her back he has to defeat the King of Monsters in the deepest part of a dungeon. Davy starts out weak, but he picks up new powers by eating the cores of strong enemies, and players fight through the dungeons again and again as he grows stronger.

The studio behind it, GPTRACK50, includes veterans of Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Dragon's Dogma. SEGA is co-publishing the game.

Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy

The last of the four arrives on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. Red Nun's Legacy is the third and final Remothered game and closes out the story of the Red Nun.

Players take on the role of Susan, who searches for her missing daughter in a decaying estate on the slopes of Mount. New hypnosis powers let her read memories from objects and uncover hidden paths.

For the finale, Stormind Games brought in well-known names: Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka wrote the soundtrack together with Aram Shahbazians, Cissy Jones voices Susan, and Maggie Robertson, who played Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village, plays the Red Nun.
